About Dr. Joanne Foster
MULTIPLE AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR
Joanne Foster, Ed.D. is the author or co-author of 9 books. Her writing reflects her extensive experience as a parent, teacher, gifted education consultant, university instructor, and community advocate. She has a Master’s degree in Special Education and Adaptive Instruction, and a Doctoral degree in Human Development and Applied Psychology. She taught Educational Psychology, and also Gifted Education, at the University of Toronto for many years.
Joanne’s newest book is a children’s rhyming picture book, for kids 3 to 7, with artwork created by NY Times #1 best-selling illustrator, Brandon Dorman! Slated for a fall 2026 release, this uplifting story will inspire children, and their parents, teachers, and caregivers. More news about this exciting publication coming soon! Her book Ignite your Ideas: Creativity for Kids received the 2025 Moonbeam Children’s Book Award Bronze Medal (nonfiction chapter books), and was the Winner of the 2025 American Book Fest Best Book Award (children’s nonfiction).
Joanne co-authored (with Dona Matthews) the multiple award-winning Being Smart series, including 3rd edition, Being Smart about Gifted Learning: Empowering Parents and Kids Through Challenge and Change.
Joanne also wrote ABCs of Raising Smarter Kids: Hundreds of Ways to Inspire Your Child, illustrated by Christine Thammavongsa (Award Finalist, American Best Books), Bust Your BUTS: Tips for Teens Who Procrastinate (winner of the Independent Book Publishers Association’s Silver Benjamin Franklin Award for teen non-fiction), and Not Now, Maybe Later: Helping Children Overcome Procrastination.
She is co-author (with Dona Matthews), of Beyond Intelligence: Secrets for Raising Happily Productive Kids (Publishers Weekly Starred Review). The Chinese edition of Beyond Intelligence was published in 2024.
Joanne’s articles are featured in many online publications, and in issues of Best Version Media’s magazines, distributed across North America. She’s written and co-authored book chapters and guest blogs, she presents at conferences, and she enjoys doing interviews and being on podcasts.
